Gaza War Why?: Natural Gas valued at over $4 billion MAYBE?
War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza's Offshore Gas Fields By Michel Chossudovsky- Global Research, January 8, 2009 The military invasion of the Gaza Strip by Israeli Forces bears a direct relation to the control and ownership of strategic offshore gas reserves. This is a war of conquest. Discovered in 2000, there are extensive gas reserves off the Gaza coastline. British Gas (BG Group) and its partner, the Athens based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) owned by Lebanon's Sabbagh and Koury families, were granted oil and gas exploration rights in a 25 year agreement signed in November 1999 with the Palestinian Authority. The rights to the offshore gas field are respectively British Gas (60 percent); Consolidated Contractors (CCC) (30 percent); and the Investment Fund of the Palestinian Authority (10 percent). (Haaretz, October 21, 2007). The PA-BG-CCC agreement includes field development and the construction of a gas pipeline.(Middle East Economic Digest, Jan 5, 2001). The BG licence covers the entire Gazan offshore marine area, which is contiguous to several Israeli offshore gas facilities. (See Map below). It should be noted that 60 percent of the gas reserves along the Gaza-Israel coastline belong to Palestine. The BG Group drilled two wells in 2000: Gaza Marine-1 and Gaza Marine-2. Reserves are estimated by British Gas to be of the order of 1.4 trillion cubic feet, valued at approximately 4 billion dollars. These are the figures made ...

Chania Rib Race 2010
Chania Rib Race 2010
On the weekend of June 12 and 13th this spectacular rib race took place at the wonderful Chania Crete. The first day the Circuit race took place and the second day it was the turn for the Offshore one. The weather conditions were optimal especially considering the rough seas easily found at this place enabling the racing crews to succeed higher speeds and pump up more their adrenaline levels. A big crowd followed this two day race from the shore looking at the boats jumping above the waves in their quest of the first place while a helicopter run above the racing field filming all critical and hot moments. Feelings of victory, excitement and disappointment were shared among participants as they came to do their best in this 3th game of Hellenic Viper Ribs Championship 2010 which hosted by the Rib Club of Chania (Λ.Φ.Σ.Χ.) and held in a smooth and safe way. Milos, Greece - Shipwreck, beauty and mystique
Milos, Greece - Shipwreck, beauty and mystique
Milos (in Greek, Μήλος) , is a volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea, just north of the Sea of Crete. Milos is the southwesternmost island in the Cyclades group. The island is famous for the statue of Aphrodite (the "Venus de Milo", now in the Louvre), and also for statues of the Greek god Asclepius (now in the British Museum) and the Poseidon and an archaic Apollo in Athens. The Municipality of Milos also includes the uninhabited offshore islands of Antimilos and Akradies. The combined land area is 160.147 km² and the 2001 census population was 4771 inhabitants. Natural resources: Bentonite, perlite, pozzolana and small quantities of kaolin are actively collected via strip mine or open-pit mine techniques in Milos and sold all over the world. In the past, baryte, sulfur, millstones and gypsum were also mined; in fact, Pliny notes that Milos was the most abundant source of sulfur in the ancient world.[9] In ancient times the alum of Milos was reckoned next to that of Egypt (Pliny xxxv. 15 [52]). The Melian earth was employed as a pigment by ancient artists. Milos was a source of obsidian during the Neolithic ages for the Aegean and Mediterranean. Orange, olive, cypress, tamarisk, juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus) and arbutus trees grow throughout the island, which, however, is too dry to have any profusion of vegetation. Vines, cotton and barley are the main crops. The beaches of Milos Island: There are about 70 beaches on Milos Island, Hivadolimni Beach is the longest ...
